Liv’n the Scout Law by Justen A. Kayse

Jam-packed with stories, brain games, and life lessons, Justen A. Kayse has crafted a book that will inspire anyone.

Everyone abides by some kind of moral code. Whether they’re following the rules of their country, community, business, religion, or a personal code of right and wrong, a sense of morality guides them. For kids and young adults, finding that moral code requires some guidance and a gentle push. It certainly did for author Justen A. Kayse, who details the way the Boy Scout laws served as the foundation for a successful life in his new book, Liv’n the Scout Law.

Kayse is motivated by his parents, who guided thousands of young people through the scouting program and helped them all grow into amazing people. Though they weren’t the push it took for him to join the Boy Scouts of America — he was inspired by fellow young people to improve his life and find a code to live by.

Unraveling the Moral Code That Changed His Life

The Boy Scouts have multiple moral codes by which they abide. The Scout slogan is “Do a good turn daily”; the motto is “Be Prepared”; the oath implores Scouts to “help other people at all times; to keep [themselves] physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

But in this book, Justen A. Kayse dives into a single foundation of the Boy Scouts: the Scout Law.

“A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.”

In Liv’n the Scout Law, readers will familiarize themselves with each element of the law, broken down and shared alongside personal anecdotes from Kayse, who aims to improve the daily lives of readers. Each chapter explores a section of the Scout Law, providing examples of how each quality can be applied in everyday life.

Applying the Scout Law to Everyday Life and Success

What does a group of Scouts do when they’re caught in a snowstorm on a camping trip? They trust their leaders. How does a man return to a lifestyle and career that slipped out of his grasp? By being loyal to himself and his goals. What happens when there is a downpour and the campsite hasn’t been set up yet? Everyone teams up to help each other. How can a professional ensure success as a salesman? By genuinely caring and being friendly. What is the best way to treat your date? Be courteous. What is one of the best qualities in a friend? Kindness.

With more examples in each chapter, the rest of the most essential parts of the Scout Law are defined, explored and made applicable both inside and outside of scouting. The author’s positive attitude and outlook on life shine through his writing. Readers can tell that he has been shaped by the Scout Law, living his life in accordance with each of the principles. He practices what he preaches in Liv’n the Scout Law and he’s always hungry to learn more and grow.

An Inspiring Read — and an Exciting Sequel! — for Everyone

Intermittent artwork from Rebecca Hamilton details key scenes and messages at the start of each chapter. Visual learners and readers alike have a lot to learn from Liv’n the Scout Law. Jam-packed with stories, brain games, and life lessons, Justen A. Kayse has crafted a book that will inspire anyone, whether Cub Scout, Eagle, Scout Leader, or readers seeking a little guidance in life.

“Through the scouts, I learned to be not just a survivor in this thing we call life but a seeker of better things in this journey we travel.” Former Scout or not, this book shares lessons we can all learn from — and there’s plenty more to learn in his next book, Liv’n the Scout Oath.

Justen A. Kayse was born and raised in the cherry capital of Michigan. He is the youngest of eight children and the entrepreneur of the family. He still lives a Scout’s life, helping others and chasing dreams. He spends his free time talking to his dog in many voices, telling her lame jokes as he thinks up new ideas to make the world a better place.
