Gather, Ye Heroes by CS Brown

Brown masterfully weaves an epic story of transformation, self-discovery and righteousness.

C S Brown’s Gather, Ye Heroes has everything readers could want in a book. This epic sword and sorcery fantasy has dragons, prophecies, a slew of witty and loveable characters, and some shocking twists that will take your breath away.

Across the seven kingdoms, prophecies tell of a chosen hero destined to save humankind from an unimaginable horror: the Smoke without Ash, also known as the Dark. Only the Hero of Destiny can defeat the Dark, and the dragons of the world are determined to find the hero — good thing they found three.

Three Heroes Destined to Save Humanity

General Tianis, a plain-spoken soldier uncomfortable with the ostentatiousness of nobility, suddenly finds himself in an unlikely station after his latest military victory. As the new King of Tauris Reach, he quickly makes a surprising ally — a dragon, one whose existence became myth in her centuries-long absence. Proclaiming him the Hero of Destiny, she is determined to make the skeptical general-turned-king heed her warnings of the Dark and march his people into battle. But as he settles into his new role and oversees his new country, it will take some concrete evidence to make him budge.

Sixteen-year-old Torg, having completed his apprenticeship as a minesmith, is eager to take his place as an adult within his small village. To do so he must pass a set of trials devised uniquely for him. But things take an unexpected turn when he comes face-to-face with a dragon whose voice penetrates his mind and calls him the Hero of Destiny. Unsure but determined, Torg sets out on his uncharted path, where he and his unlikely allies discover what it means to lead — and what it will take to save mankind.

Elsbeth is a master weaponsmith who must forge in her father’s stead secretly because of the ruling lord, whose laws prevent women from fulfilling such roles. But upon discovering the secret to forging dragonsteel, Els is thrust into a new life thanks to the kingdom’s crown prince — and the great white dragon who proclaims her the Hero of Destiny. Suddenly finding herself with more money and power than she ever expected, Els must navigate new relationships as she uncovers what exactly destiny has in store for her.

Each on their own paths, these heroes’ lives will ultimately converge on the eve of the greatest battle humankind has ever seen. But the question remains — will they be enough to stop the Dark?

Captivating Fantasy and Masterful Storytelling

Gather, Ye Heroes is filled with complex storylines that weave together effortlessly. As a reader, I tend to get easily confused when epic fantasies use multiple POVs — but not once did it happen with this story. Each character’s journey is distinct yet subtly connected, making their stories truly captivating.

Each hero’s journey is filled with vivid side characters readers are sure to fall in love with, from the mischievous Ian trio — One-Eye, Two-Eye and No-Eye — to the king’s quirky philosophers. The heroes’ stories are enriched by their newfound relationships, further bringing these characters to life.

But author C S Brown’s talents are revealed in more than just his characters. Each individual storyline, and the plot as a whole, are so thoroughly thought out and carried to fruition. Brown masterfully weaves an epic story of transformation, self-discovery and righteousness, revealing so much more than just a battle of good versus evil.

Readers are in for a journey of a lifetime in Gather, Ye Heroes — and even a shocking twist or two. As the first in what’s sure to be an epic new series, the ending will leave readers satisfied yet eager for more.

A few years ago, C S Brown left the rat race and moved to Central America. Perched atop a mountain in the middle of a jungle with a beautiful view of the local lake, he settled into retirement. But he found he wanted to do something productive with his time. Fun… but still productive. He chose writing. Before this, the only fiction he had ever written was his employee review. Never had he tried telling a story. He got hooked, and kept writing until one day he realized he had written a book.

Today, you can find him enjoying the view, writing his fantasies in the peaceful confines of a little house outside a (very) small town. When he is not writing, he’s playing guitar, hanging with friends, or being bossed around by his two cats. All in the shadow of an active volcano.
