The Frindle Files by Andrew Clements
Random House Books for Young Readers will posthumously publish the final novel by beloved author Andrew Clements this fall with The Frindle Files, a sequel to his modern classic Frindle. Caldecott-winning illustrator Brian Selznick, who created the iconic Frindle cover art, will illustrate the sequel’s cover as well. The book will be published on August 27, 2024.
Published in 1996, Frindle quickly became a classroom staple, appearing on multiple state award lists and earning accolades from children, parents, and educators alike, who championed Clements’s story about writing and the power of words. The novel went on to sell over 10 million copies and has been translated into 13 languages. More than twenty-five years later, it continues to be beloved by readers and is a favorite among millennials. With the publication of The Frindle Files, set a generation after the first book, Clements shows readers how using our words carefully — and speaking up — can make a difference.
“We are so proud to be publishing Andrew’s final novel and that it brings the love for Frindle full circle for readers of all ages,” said Michelle Nagler, SVP & Publisher. “To have one final story to share with his fans and have it be a sequel to his much-loved book is the best gift we could have received from Andrew, and we are grateful for the trust and partnership we have shared with his family.”
The Frindle Files introduces readers to technology lover Josh Willet. Josh is a good student but finds Mr. N’s ELA class, where they must write everything out on paper, old-school to say the least. One night, Josh discovers Mr. N has been keeping a lot more than technology from his students. Josh’s tech skills are about to be put to very good use to solve a mystery that no one in his class or even school has yet to uncover. Filled with humor and Clements’s potent, no-nonsense prose, The Frindle Files will have readers tearing through its pages.
