A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber
The Queen of YA Romantasy, Stephanie Garber, returns with a deadly third and final installment of the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy. Jacks and Evangeline’s love story has finally come to an end — and A Curse for True Love is a conclusion you won’t want to miss.
Stephanie Garber has a knack for writing fantasy worlds filled with romance, magic and lots of engaging drama and strong rapport between characters. The Caraval trilogy first introduced readers to the sassy, funny and sexy Jacks, who has taken center stage in this newest series.
In A Curse for True Love, we follow leading lady Evangeline as she struggles to remember her past. It was a past that included Jacks, a dangerous deal, an unimaginable loss and a dark truth that must be uncovered.
A Magic World Full of Mystery and Danger
While Evangeline always dreamt of fairytales, when she finds herself in the perfect mansion in the Magnificent North with Apollo, she feels out of place. While Apollo seems doting, loving and fascinated with her, she does not remember why she’s there. And who exactly is Appollo?
As we follow Evangeline through the story, we relate to her struggle to piece together the past. When Jacks shows up and calls himself the Archer, someone who keeps saving Evangeline from trouble, she slowly begins to remember her time with him. Yet, it seems that keeping her safe is the hardest thing to do now, and Jacks must stop killers who are trying to get rid of Evangeline.
As the story progresses, we root for Evangeline and Jacks to escape death and find their way to happiness — even as Apollo makes Jacks the target of murders and destruction in their land. Readers will be met with some serious surprises from returning characters as they make their way to the satisfying end of the novel.
Engaging Setting and Slow-Burn Romance
In Garber’s world, fantasy takes center stage and the setting is a character on its own. Garber weaves an environment filled with vivid descriptions of sparkling chandeliers, elaborate daggers and ball gowns; no detail is left behind.
When it comes to romance, Stephanie Garber leans into the slow burn until the end of this one, but readers will find themselves pleased with the conclusion. As the story walks readers through the dangers faced by Evangeline and Jacks, readers will be eager to follow and see where it leads. Evangeline’s struggles and determination to move forward and find her past self and memories are admirable and captivating.
A Curse for True Love is a quick and well-written read, making for a perfect end to the series. Of course, it will certainly leave readers wanting more. One can hope that this might not be the end of this world and its characters.
