“When I die,” said Matthew Perry in an interview last year to promote his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, “as far as my so-called accomplishments go, it would be nice if Friends were listed far behind the things I did to try to help other people.” News of Perry’s sudden passing took the world by storm, with fans devastated and hungry for any morsel of information. Cast members said in a joint statement, “We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.” The memoir details Perry’s well-documented struggle with addiction and alcoholism, his rise to fame and his commitment to helping others in the wake of his own difficulties. For much of his life, he was certainly a Friend in need. May he rest in peace.
