My Goodbye Girl by Anna Gomez

What's It About?

One woman's journey across the world as she learns to open her heart and let love in.

What do you do when love is tested? Do you let it go or grab on with both hands and fight for it?

When R&D scientist, Simon Fremont meets famous romance writer Tessa Talman, he knows he has to have her. She’s a contradiction; beautiful and spirited, yet refined in a way that makes him sit up and take notice. When an opportunity presents itself to get to know Tessa better, he takes it, even though the pair couldn’t be more different.

Simon likes things clean, neat and orderly. He’s practical, decisive and doesn’t take risks. But he’s willing to bet on Tessa. After ending an old relationship, he sets out to find the one woman who stirs him, mind, body and soul. My Goodbye Girl by Anna Gomez follows Simon and Tessa across the globe as they open themselves up to the possibility of a happy ending while tackling grief, loss and compromise along the way.

Opposites Attract in a Long-Distance Romance

For Simon, pinning Tessa down isn’t easy. He follows career-focused and commitment-phobic Tessa to destinations far from his home base in London. From Las Vegas and San Francisco to Hong Kong, Greece, and the Philippines, the two embark on a whirlwind romance that leaves Simon wanting more.

Tessa, however, is afraid of love. She tries distancing herself, the way her past has taught her, and she pushes Simon away before he can get too close. Tessa wants air, freedom, and the chance to live her life on her own terms. She should be capitalizing on her success as a writer, not tied down and grounded when she should be flying.

But with each stamp of her passport, saying goodbye to Simon becomes harder and harder until she can no longer deny her feelings. Their chemistry is undeniable, and Tessa knows that if she wants to keep Simon, she’s going to have to take the leap.

So, she does. They both do. They go all in and finally decide to be together. They meet each other’s families, make plans, and open themselves up to love. Only, it all comes crashing down around them when tragedy strikes, and Tessa experiences an unspeakable loss. Will the loss break her? Will it break them? Or can Simon and Tessa find their way back to each other?

The Push and Pull of Star-Crossed Lovers

Told through alternating POVs, readers will experience Tessa and Simon’s journey through their eyes. They’ll witness the push and pull of their internal and external conflict creating an angst that will keep the pages turning.

Both Simon and Tessa want and need each other, but they can’t find their way past their own holdups and insecurities. But the challenge of finding their way to each other is what makes their love that much sweeter — you’ll want to root for their ability to find love against all odds.

Much like Tessa and Simon’s journey, the book has its unexpected moments. At times, I thought the story would take me down one road, only to discover a pleasantly surprising detour that made the story that much better. Everyone loves a good twist, and Tessa and Simon’s story is one journey I was happy to be on.

My Goodbye Girl is a story about finding your way. About falling in love, fighting through grief and loss and emerging stronger than before. It’s about healing, second chances and finding the strength to persevere. It’s about reconciling the past and the person you were with who you will become, and learning how to love and be loved as you are. It’s about saying goodbye until you’re able to say hello — to a new you — one that’s better than before.
