We start off with some good news this week. Bestselling author and supporter of children’s literacy, Mary Pope Osborne, joins Teddy Grahams and Save The Children to inspire a summer of storytelling!

In some other great news, it’s being reported that children’s education and entertainment brand Rebel Girls is partnering with Nike to launch a limited-edition book and a series of digital stories celebrating women footballers, coinciding with the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 tournament.

We have quite a bit of books-to-screen news, so hold on tight for a wild ride! Deadline recently reported that Jamie-Lee Curtis and the production firm Blumhouse have signed on to make a feature film based on Lizzie Johnson’s Paradise: One Town’s Struggle To Survive an American Wildfire. HBO has cancelled The Time Traveler’s Wife series, based on Audrey Niffenegger’s bestselling 2003 novel after just one season. Natasha Behnam (known for her roles on One-Night and Mayans M.C.) has reportedly joined the cast of The Girls on the Bus, the upcoming HBO Max series based on Amy Chozick’s Chasing Hillary. And finally, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Kate Winslet is bringing Hernan Diaz’s Trust to the small screen in an HBO limited series adaptation. 217 Films announced that their new full-length documentary will be on America’s greatest philosopher and thinker, Ralph Waldo Emerson, called Ralph Waldo Emerson: Give All to Love.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES WORTHY OF NOTE

Jesmyn Ward has become the youngest person ever to win the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction! Author, bookseller and social entrepreneur Tamara Macfarlane (author of Dragon World and the Amazing Esme series) has been awarded a £10,000 Cambridge Social Innovation Prize for her work raising equality in children’s books! Jay Gao has won the 2022 Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize for his mystery story “The Baron and His Volcano”. In other news, Rolling Stone reported that Willie Nelson will tell the story of his friendship with longtime drummer Paul English in a new book, Me and Paul: Untold Stories of a Fabled Friendship this summer.

In her new memoir, Soul Survivor, singer P.P. Arnold recalls her stint as an Ikette, part of the iconic R&B act the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, and accuses Ike Turner of sexually assaulting her during the 1960s.

Coming in early 2023, Salman Rushdie, the multi-award winning author, will release Victory City, his first novel in four years.
