Two-time Shamus Award-winning author Kristen Lepionka and 2020 Shamus Award finalist Casey Barrett sat down for a chat via BookTrib’s Facebook Live to discuss Lepionka’s recent release Once You Go This Far, PI tropes and how the pandemic has affected launching a book.

The authors lamented about Zoom fatigue and explained the “evergreen achievement” of book awards — a real boon for a writing career whether you win or are  simply nominated. Barrett asked Lepionka for her opinion on the representation of police in crime fiction, building on his previous interview with John Fram (watch that interview here). The two also speculated about how the pandemic could change their genre, which anchors itself in reality and provides social commentary.
