Biggest literary influences:

James Lee Burke and Elmore Leonard

Last book read:

The Dark Corners of the Mind by Meg Gardiner

The book that changed your life:

Jules Verne’s Journey To The Center Of The Earth. It was the first real novel I ever read. I was 14 years old. I then devoured more of his books and moved on to Steinbeck and Hemingway. But this book started a lifelong love of reading.

Your favorite literary character:

Dave Robicheaux, James Lee Burke’s iconic character. He is tough, smart, and possesses a deep understanding of people, which is critical to his investigative work. A flawed but wonderful character.

Currently working on:

The OC, the next Jake Longly book, and the audio versions of Sunshine State and Rigged.

Words to live by:

Never do tomorrow what you should’ve done today.

Advice to new and aspiring authors:

Read, read, read, write, write, write; I am.

We all know Lyle’s erudition and expertise — but who knew he was this funny?
Lee Child, New York Times bestselling author

“Jake Longly, a modern Lew Archer, with enough experience to know better but with a big enough heart to still get himself into trouble, is a character who would be right at home in the pages of novels by Carl Hiaasen, Elmore Leonard or Tim Dorsey. But, he’s also a true original — smart, funny and self-aware — someone you’d love to grab a beer with, assuming he doesn’t get killed first. This series is the most fun in print today.
Tim Maleeny, bestselling author of Stealing the Dragon and JUMP

Skin in the Game is a bracing and blisteringly original thriller that challenges old genre rules while making up plenty of its own. D. P. Lyle has a fashioned a tale sharply edged enough to leave our fingers bleeding from turning the pages as fast as we can. His intrepid protagonists are among the best drawn and richly realized of any heroes seen in years with echoes of both David Baldacci and C. J. Box, making Skin in the Game a winner from page one. A smooth and sultry tale that shoots for the moon and hits a literary bulls-eye.”
—Jon Land, USA Today bestselling author of the Caitlin Strong series

Skin in the Game is “The Most Dangerous Game” on steroids. Fast, relentless, and cunning.”
David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author of Murder As A Fine Art
