Biggest literary influences:
James Lee Burke and Elmore Leonard
The book that changed your life:
Jules Verne’s Journey To The Center Of The Earth. I was 14 and this was the first “real” novel I had ever read. It blew me away and started a life-long love of reading.
Your favorite literary character:
Actually two: James Lee Burke’s Dave Robicheaux and Elmore Leonard’s Raylan Givens. Both are tough, strong-willed and not afraid to bend the rules to bring down the bad guys.
Currently working on:
The sixth Jake Longly book, currently titled Cultured.
Words to live by:
Believe whatever you want but whatever is, is.
Advice to new and aspiring authors:
There is no perfect time to write, there is only now.

Testimonials
“Snappy dialogue, fun characters, smart writing, a juicy mystery — all had me flipping pages until I reached The End. Jake and Nicole remind me of my favorite mystery duo, Nick and Nora Charles, with a modern twist. The Jake Longly series never fails to entertain.” — Allison Brennan, NYT bestselling author
“A terrific read. Retired major league baseball player turned restaurateur turned reluctant and wisecracking P.I. Jake Longly returns in fine form in The OC, a poignant and wickedly funny tale set in Southern California. When Jake and his movie-producer girlfriend, Nicole Jamison, head to Orange County for a little R and R, they get more than they bargain for. Nicole’s friend, TV-reporter Megan Weatherly, has picked up a stalker. Jake and Nicole pick up the case with help from Jake’s PI-father and longtime pal, Tommy “Pancake” Jeffers. Jake and Nicole banter like Tracy and Hepburn as they develop a plan and pursue the bad guy. D.P. Lyle’s prose is stylish, smart, and compelling. Another grand slam in an immensely entertaining series. Highly recommended.” — Sheldon Siegel, NYT bestselling author of the Mike Daley/Rosie Fernandez novels
“Another witty, fast-moving, adventure for Jake & Nicole, the ‘Nick & Nora Charles’ of the 21st Century.” — Lee Goldberg, #1 NYT bestselling author
