Layne James has been writing since she could hold a pen. With a background in photojournalism, she is passionate about telling stories with both her camera and her words. Layne loves gardening, being outside, traveling, keeping life as simple as possible, and time with her heart friends. Her dream is to sit in bed reading, writing, and drinking wine for as many hours as she can in any given week.

Remember Us (2019)

Biggest literary influencers:

Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, Paula McLain, J.K.Rowling, Ernest Hemingway and Carol Rifka Brunt.

Last book read:

The Devil in the White City by Erik Lawson

The book that changed your life:

Anne of Green Gables. I’ve read this book (and the entire series) seven or eight times. Anne always taught me to look for the positive in life and the good in people. She was a dreamer and an adventurer. Anne opened my eyes to seeing life in a different way.

Your favorite literary character:

In case I didn’t say it strongly enough, I’ve always loved Anne of Green Gables. She is spunky, inquisitive, and extraordinarily kind. Beyond that, she always wanted to be a writer, which has been a dream of mine from childhood as well.

Currently working on:

Two more upmarket fiction books and some creative non-fiction essays!

Words to live by:

Why not?

Advice to new and aspiring authors:

Read all you can and then write, write, write, and write some more. Let other people read your work and listen to their thoughts but go with your gut.

Testimonials:

“There are few books I finish and want to read again. Remember Us is one of them. The reminder that family is messy and imperfect, yet where we find our place is so real. I cannot recommend this book enough. Each character is so relatable and feels like family.”

– Kimberly L. West

“The family dynamics made me laugh out loud at times and get frustrated at times because they’re so relatable!!! I’m not giving much detail because I think this book can speak to hearts in many different ways and I don’t want to spoil that individual experience for future readers. If you’re looking for an enjoyable read that will also make you think & grow your heart in love, then read Remember Us immediately!!”
