If you have read the Series of Unfortunate Events series, then you are probably familiar with Daniel Handler, as he wrote the thirteen-book series under his pen name, Lemony Snicket. The San Francisco native took time away to come talk to Roxanne Coady on this latest episode of Just the Right Book!, where they discuss his latest book, All the Dirty Parts. The story details the erotic impulses of a teenage boy stuck in the midst of many girls and a friend.
Together, Roxanne and Daniel talk about any subjects including how to speak with your children about sexuality, pornography’s contribution to our culture, and how the book has stirred up controversy. Handler commented, “Publishing houses just felt like it was not something that should be presented for young people.”
Under his real name Daniel Handler, he has written six novels. Together as Daniel and Lemony, he has sold more than 70 million copies that have been translated in over 40 languages. He has also developed a play, Imaginary Comforts, which will be premiering at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. He is married to Lisa Brown, illustrator, who he has collaborated with on many books.
After the interview with Daniel, Roxanne gives a sneak preview of some books coming out in 2018.
