When Fox’s Prison Break was cancelled back in 2009, I almost threw something at the TV. I was a huge fan from the start, and only fell harder during the show’s four seasons. I may have initially been enticed to watch by Wentworth Miller’s very sexy tattooed back, but I stayed for the mystery, the romance and the thrilling roller coaster that Prison Break took me on each week.
Thankfully, the show has been rebooted (YAY!!), with season 5 starting Tuesday, April 4 on Fox. Check out this trailer to get you excited:

The premise of the show was relatively simple at first: Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is framed for a murder he didn’t commit and his brother Michael (Miller’s character), a structural engineer, devises a plan to break him out of prison – which is where all those hot tattoos come into play. But things got a lot more complicated very quickly, as it became clear that there’s a shady organization called The Company manipulating events behind the scenes. From there, things get even more nuts, with characters dying (or maybe not), lots of government secrets, and even more prisons to deal with.
Spoiler alert! When season 4 ended in 2009, Michael was dead. DEAD!! But apparently it didn’t stick, as the actor is definitely rejoining the show for season 5. Since so many of us were devastated when the show killed him off in season 4, this is like a Hail Mary pass. From the first episode, I’ve been obsessed with Michael and his relationship with Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies), the prison doctor who falls for him in season 1. Now we’ll finally get to see their love story advance, including how it will play out with Michael’s son who shows up at the end of season 4. I. Can. Not. Wait.

The Prisoner, Alex Berenson (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, January 31, 2017)
Part of the fun of Prison Break is watching Michael purposefully enter prison in order to stage his elaborate escape. This is also the premise of Berenson’s latest novel, part of his John Wells’ series. In The Prisoner, John is searching for a mole in the CIA who’s passing info on to ISIS. In order to hunt out the traitor, John has to resume his identity as part of al Qaeda and purposefully get arrested and thrown into a Bulgarian prison. There, he’ll befriend an ISIS prisoner and find the intel he needs. But it’s been a long time since he last worked uncover for al Qaeda and this time the mission is more deadly than ever. If you like exciting prison hijinks and intense suspense (what Prison Break fan doesn’t?) then this is the novel for you.
The Far Shore, Paul T. Scheuring (One Light Road, Inc., March 7, 2017)
Paul T. Scheuring just happens to be the creator and head writer of Prison Break, so I’m sure I’ll love his first novel, The Far Shore. The story is about Lily, an aimless young woman who suddenly inherits $16 million. But there’s a catch: she has to find the remains of her grandfather who went missing during WWII. The search sends Lily on a trip that spans the globe, bringing her to places she never thought she’d visit. Along the way, she works to uncover the truth of what happened to her grandfather, as well as finding her own purpose in life. His story and the journey it sends her on will change Lily’s life forever. Since Scheuring is responsible for Prison Break, I have no doubt that this book will be filled with excitement, adventure and plenty of plot twists.
Never Never, James Patterson & Candice Fox (Little, Brown and Company, January 16, 2017)
Prison Break might be full of intrigue and excitement, but at its core it’s really a story about family. After all, Michael never would have entered the prison if he wasn’t sure his brother was innocent. Family loyalty is also at the heart of Never Never, as well as a creepy town with plenty of secrets. Investigator Harry Blue is rocked when her brother is arrested for murder. After being reassigned to a tiny, mysterious town in the middle of nowhere, she becomes desperate to get to the bottom of what really happened. Is her brother a murderer, or is it up to her to clear his name? Loyalties are tested as the truth becomes more and more difficult to uncover, and it becomes clear that Harry is in more danger than she thought. Any fan of Prison Break will be drawn to the mysteries and nonstop action in the latest from Patterson and Fox.
