Commander in Chief by Katy Evans
Sometimes you just want to read a sexy book. You know what I mean: those select stories filled with flirtation, innuendo, sexy make-out scenes and even sexier bedroom scenes. These are the books that sweep you up in the romance, delivering a solid story that’s always satisfyingly hot and heavy.
When I’m in the mood to be wrapped up in a sexy read, I immediately turn to Katy Evans. Her alpha men are hot, chiseled and so completely devoted to their lady loves that I sometimes find myself dying of jealously while I read. And those lady loves are no slouches either; smart, accomplished and completely worthy of the true love they find in their hot leading men. Their romances might feature extraordinary lives (like candidate for President of the United States), but they still manage to feel completely realistic at their core. Also, super, super hot. Seriously, I dare you to try and read an Evans novel without blushing at least once. All that undeniable passion is most definitely why Evans is my author crush for January.
Evans has published 13 novels and novellas, with her most recent, Commander in Chief (January 11, 2017) just released. She also returns to our favorite characters again and again, giving us complete stories of courtship, passion, and what comes after the HEA. So if you haven’t read any Evans yet, now’s the time. But be prepared: her novels are practically addicting. I guarantee you won’t be getting a lot of sleep once you start one.
In my humble opinion, here are the top five hottest Evans novels around:
Real (Gallery Books, May 28, 2013)
This is the book that started it all for me. As soon as I started Real, I fell so hard for Remington “Remy” Tate, an underground fighter who’s basically sex on a stick (seriously, I think Evans even uses that exact phrase in the book). He’s got a dark past, and he’s pretty closed off, but that doesn’t stop him from pursuing Brooke Dumas, a sports therapist who ends up working with Remy. Brooke is smart and independent, struggling to follow her dreams. Remy is intense — oh, so intense — broody, and has a difficult time communicating his feelings. But when he lets Brooke in, their chemistry and passion is electric. These two quickly became one of my OTPs and I was happy to follow them through the rest of the REAL series.
Legend (Gallery Books, February 9, 2016)
The first three books in the REAL series stick with Brooke and Remy (swoon), while books 4, 5 and 6 branch out into secondary characters and their individual love stories. While all of them are great, the best by far is Legend, the story of Maverick “Mav” Cage and Reese Dumas. It’s also the final book in the REAL series — and what a great way to end it all! Mav is a fighter with a pretty tortured past who’s determined to beat his personal rival, Remy, for champion of the Underground. But when he meets and falls for Reese, the cousin of his rival’s wife, he’s even more tortured. The two know they’re supposed to stay away from each other, but their chemistry just can’t be denied. If you love alpha heroes with a chip on their shoulder and Romeo & Juliet-style stories with lots of underground fighting (and who doesn’t??), then this book is for you.
Mr. President (October 31, 2016)
If Scandal has taught me anything, it’s that I definitely have a sexy, forbidden-romance-with-the-president fetish. So when I heard that Evans was going to release a book about a hot young presidential candidate and the campaign staffer he falls for, I knew I was on board. And OMG is this book hot. Matthew Hamilton is the prince of America who decides to run for president years after his father was assassinated in the same position. Matt’s known Charlotte Wells since she was a child, which is partially why he offers her a job on his campaign — not to mention the fact that sparks instantly fly whenever they’re in the same room. With all eyes on Matt, a romance between the two is definitely off limits. Which makes it so much hotter when (Spoiler Alert!) they finally, finally give into temptation. This book is all innuendo, longing glances, and forbidden love (my three favorite things!). Thank god that sequel, Commander in Chief, is finally out.
Manwhore (Gallery Books, March 24, 2015)
I am always a fan of a good push-pull romance, where both parts of the couple think they have the upper hand until they both fall completely in love. Which is why I’m such a fan of Manwhore, the first in the series about Malcolm Saint and Rachel, the girl he can’t help but alter his ways for. Theirs isn’t an easy love: Malcolm is the ‘manwhore’ of Chicago, and not known for his commitment to one woman. But all that changes when he meets the innocent Rachel (and instantly calls “dibs” on her). Unfortunately, Rachel has an angle of her own — one that could threaten their entire relationship and ruin Malcolm’s tentative trust. These two gave me heart palpitations at times as I had no idea how it would all be resolved. But they’re also really sweet together. And just know that you’ll want to have book two ready to read as soon as you finish this one.
Womanizer (December 5, 2016)
Evans’ most recent book is a standalone novel that’s connected to the Manwhore universe, and I fell just as hard for Callan Carmichael as I did for Manwhore’s Malcolm. Maybe even harder. Callan is a ruthless CEO who’s also known to be a huge womanizer. But when he meets the feisty Olivia Roth, he’s almost instantly smitten. The only problem? Olivia is his new intern, and the sister of his best friend. They try to keep their hands off each other, but of course that doesn’t last long (luckily for us). This story is relatively angst-free compared to Evan’s usual novels, but sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and bask in the sweet, and very sexy, romance.
