Hey, Outlander fans–have we got a treat for you! In 2011 Diana Gabaldon chatted live with BookTrib members from her office at Arizona State University to mark the release of The Scottish Prisoner. At the time she was working on Written In My Heart’s Own Blood and we learned lots fascinating things about her.  The popularity of Diana’s visit to our site brought the house down — well, brought the site down — but we adjusted the gears and levers and were able to manage the incredible crowd. We made the video  public on YouTube in November 2012 but with the Outlander television series about to premiere,we realized some of you may have missed it. So, to celebrate the long-awaited TV series, here is Diana’s conversation with BookTrib Nation.

Among the goodies Diana shares are:

  • How she kept her Outlander research secret — even from her husband!
  • Details of her first trip to Scotland.
  • The comic books she wrote for Disney.
  • Her writing method (plotter or pantser).
  • The authors she likes to read.
  • Why she hasn’t aged a bit!

Among the things we learned about Diana was one of her favorite authors, Dorothy Dunnett, who she had the pleasure of meeting. That why we’re giving away THE GAME OF KINGS, the first book in the legendary Lymond Chronicles. Game of Kings takes place in 1547. Scotland has been humiliated by an English invasion and is threatened by machinations elsewhere beyond its borders, but it is still free. Paradoxically, Scotland’s freedom may depend on a man who stands accused of treason: Francis Crawford of Lymond.
