Cannes “Shoegate” sparks tradition vs. sexism debates

It began with a Screen Daily report that subsequently raised plenty of eyebrows. Now, everyone can’t stop talking about “Shoegate,” which, if you’re unfamiliar: The Issue: The Cannes Film Festival has come under intense scrutiny after it was reported that women were barred from entering a premiere for not wearing high heels. It seems some women wearing flats were turned away from a screening of Carol. As another example, Amy director Asif Kapadia said his wife was turned away from the screening for wearing flat shoes, but she was eventually allowed entry.
