by John Katzenbach The most frequent question I get as a writer is: “Where do you get your ideas?” Sometimes this question comes from a friend or acquaintance, although I suspect that quotation marks should adorn either of those two categories, because their inquiry is usually followed by the smug statement, “Because I really thought your latest book was…” and then they fill in this un-asked for opinion with sick or twisted or weird. Some word that clearly indicates that they are different from me – inasmuch as they couldn’t possibly be as utterly depraved an individual as I obviously must be to think up the plots of my novels. Then they go back to beating their dog, stealing money…
