The 87th Academy Awards were last night and people won Oscars and stuff. But let’s focus on the most important part: the fashion. This year the red carpet was a mix of Old Hollywood, modern glamour, and a few outlandishly bizarre choices. Just the way we like it.

In my opinion, it was the classic Hollywood influences that made the night. From jeweled shoulder straps to sleek silhouettes, this year’s award show was all about old world style. And I should know: I recently got my hands on Angela Cartwright and Tom McLaren’s book, Styling the Stars: Lost Treasures from the Twentieth Century Fox Archive (Insight Editions). This unique collection combines rare photographs, anecdotes and costume details spanning from the 1930s to the 70s. The looks may change over 40 years, but the glamour of classic Hollywood never goes out of style.
