An out-of-control secret crime organization, vigilante justice, and intense torture are just a sample of the action-packed elements readers can expect to discover in Katherine Jeffries’s second novel, Stranglehold [North Star Writers, May 2015].

Full of unexpected twists and exploring difficult themes like capital punishment and abuse, Stranglehold brings to life Gemma Pearl—witness to a corrupt criminal enterprise uprising as the daughter of the organization’s murdered founder. After years of duress at the hands of those close to her, Gemma’s escape from her crooked life leaves her harbored by the feared and respected Grant Steele; together they come to terms with past unforgiving acts.

“[Stranglehold] explores the themes of who deserves to be executed and the possible whys,” explains Jeffries. She continues, “It opens up discussion of controversial topics—rape, abuse, capital punishment, redemption, and repentance.”

An adrenaline-fueled and thought-provoking novel that proves Jeffries a force to be reckoned with in the thriller area, Stranglehold is sure to be a can’t miss addition to 2015 reading lists.

Throughout Stranglehold compelling themes are examined including:

  • Justice vs. Forgiveness, what role does the victim play in determining if someone should die?
  • Actions speak louder than words—being defined based on reputation rather than the reasons behind the actions
  • Overcoming trauma after a life full of corruption
  • What we lie about and why? And consequently living the untruths
