JULY BOOK CLUB PICKS

Happy weekend, Book Lovers! We hope you’re ready for another round-up of book news that will make your head spin. For Bridgerton fans, we’ve got you covered with some juicy prequel details. Stephen King had some tongues wagging this week after accidentally spreading some fake news. Then we have a much-anticipated Scientology tell-all coming from Mike Rinder himself (ooh!). That’s just the tip of the iceberg, dear readers, so get comfortable and remember to keep your arms and legs inside this rollercoaster ride we call The Pulse at all times.

STANDOUT READS BOOKTRIB’S DISCUSSING

Peril at the Exposition by Nev March: “A historical, cozy mystery perfect for the poolside or beach.”

Bet on it by Jodie Slaughter: “Fans of steamy contemporary romantic comedy will not be disappointed.”

The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci: “Readers can expect twists and turns and menacing characters!”

NEWS FROM THE BOOK WORLD

For all our Bridgerton fans, we have some fantastic news! Avon Books have announced a prequel to the hit book (and Netflix) series, co-written by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes, and will give some backstory on the character of Queen Charlotte.

Stephen King made the news after sharing a link that contained a misleading headline about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Twitter. King did apologize in a Tweet when it became apparent the link was fake news, though.

For Game of Thrones lovers, George R.R. Martin recently assured fans that he’s still at work on The Winds of Winter … but he also warned (let’s hope he promised) not to expect the very long-awaited novel to play out like the HBO series.

Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale, was at it again this week. She raised some eyebrows on social media with a picture of herself holding a coffee mug with a provocative message in response to the overturning of Roe Vs. Wade. Sadly, ol’ Maggie wasn’t wrong with her prediction …

In our book-to-screen news, we have a new biopic coming from Spanglish Media soon, titled Bezos, which is based on on the book Zero to Hero by Tashena Banks, and follows Jeff Bezos’s founding days of Amazon. The Duffer Brothers will also be adapting The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub for Netflix! Variety also recently reported that Joyce Carol Oates has given her approval to Blonde, the upcoming film based on her novel about Marilyn Monroe.

MORE BOOKS THE MEDIA’S BUZZING ABOUT

Penguin Young Readers has announced that Emma Straub, author of This Time Tomorrow, will publish her first picture book, titled Very Good Hats, early next year via its Rocky Pond Books imprint.

Gallery Books will publish former Scientology executive, Mike Rinder’s A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology this fall. The Simon & Schuster imprint says the book “exposes the secret inner workings of the powerful organization.”

We have some interesting news coming from across the pond, too. Viking has landed an authorised history of the Parachute Regiment in the Second World War by British journalist, historian, and author, Mark Urban. Century also announced its plans to posthumously publish the memoir of the late Hollywood actor Paul Newman, entitled The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man.

For our artsy readers, art pop up book publisher Poposition Press is working with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. on an upcoming series of officially licensed pop up books and cards showcasing the career of the iconic visual and conceptual artist Andy Warhol! Just look at how lovely this oversized pop up banana sculpture (from the collection) looks:
