BOOKS:

The Bezos Letters (2019)

Your biggest literary influences:

Seth Godin, Tom Clancy

Last book read:

Questions are the Answers by Hal Gregersen and Ed Catmell

The book that changed your life:

The E-Myth by Michael Gerber

The concept of working “on” your business not “in” your business was very impactful when I first read this book sometime in the ’80s. The idea has continued to impact how I think about building a business. Working on your business helps me focus on creating successful business processes that can be scaled.

Your favorite literary character:

Jack Ryan – I have read every book Tom Clancy wrote two times. His characters are well developed, interesting, and always getting into and out of trouble. I especially enjoyed the depth of research and details. Well, at least 90% of the time. Clancy is a great storyteller.

Currently working on:

Promoting my new book The Bezos Letters

Words to live by:

Don’t give up before the miracle.

Advice for aspiring authors:

If you are writing non-fiction, make sure you are reading fiction. What makes a book memorable is connecting with the reader at an emotional level and the best way to do that is with stories. Reading fiction will help you write better non-fiction.

Testimonials:

“I struggle to be an avid reader, but I struggled to put this one [The Bezos Letters] down. I will be using these principles to evaluate and implement in my company.”

– Ron Woods

“Having served as a ‘behind the scenes’ executive for most of my career, so much of what Steve Anderson has uncovered about Jeff Bezos and Amazon reminds me of the legacy of Walt Disney. Walt had a vision and made it happen; Jeff had a vision and made it happen; and you too can make your vision happen—and make it happen faster and easier when using the principles Steve has laid out in The Bezos Letters. I think there’s quite of bit of ‘magic’ in this book! Great job, Steve!”

– Lee Cockerell, Former Executive Vice President of Operations, WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort, Bestselling Author of Creating Magic: Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney

“What if Jeff Bezos simply handed you the formula to Amazon’s stratospheric growth so you could do the same? He did, in his shareholder letters. In this remarkable book, Steve Anderson decrypts the 14 Growth Principles you can use to have your own ‘Amazon-ing’ success!”

– Mike Michalowicz, Bestselling Author of Profit First and Clockwork
