When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

Who can forget when Anne Hathaway took on Meryl Streep in 2006’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada?’ Based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling book of the same name, the film  remains a favorite pop-culture phenomenon due to the remarkably on point nice-nasty chemistry between Streep and Hathaway.

While The Devil Wears Prada (Broadway Books) was fiction, Weisberger based the characters, in part, on Vogue Magazine’s Anne Wintour— Weisberger was her assistant for a time before she became a bestselling author.  This year marks the book’s 15th anniversary and Weisberger is coming out with a sequel to the older favorite entitled, When Life Gives You Lululemons (June 5, 2018, Simon & Schuster).

The book sees the return of not Andrea (played by Hathaway), the central character of The Devil Wears Prada, but that of Emily Charlton (played by Emily Blunt), the ex-assistant to Miranda Priestly— the titular devil of the original book. Now working as an image consultant in Hollywood, Emily finds herself in something of a bind after losing a few clients. After searching, Emily finds herself, the client – and opportunity – of a lifetime in the leafy, over-priced, and spectacularly rich suburb of Greenwich, Connecticut.

Karolina Hartwell, an international supermodel, the former face of L’Oreal, and wife of a newly elected New York senator, just got arrested for a DUI, while driving a car full of other people’s kids. She’s in trouble and she needs help, guidance and a bit of perspective in a hurry before facing some serious consequences that could end her husband’s career!

Enter, Emily Charlton.

Emily and Karolina find their connection in Miriam, who was a high-powered partner at a prestigious law firm in Manhattan, now in Greenwich to spend more time with her children. Used to the cut-throat politics in the courtroom and the boardroom, Miriam had no idea that it would be in Greenwich that she’d be tripping over every gilded social landmine there is.

Karolina, Emily, and Miriam may make a very unlikely trio, but they need each other in order to survive, creating a relationship that’s dynamic, biting, witty, and heartfelt. With Lauren Weisberger at the helm of the ship, she brings her signature elements of sharp intelligence and brutal honesty to strip off the layers of glamour and wealth in the Greenwich social scene, and take a look at the at the truth, the lies, and everything in between the lies just under the surface. When Life Gives You Lululemons is a major page turner full of humor, irony and glamour; it will be every bit as iconic as The Devil Wears Prada.
