Joely Fisher has had a long career in Hollywood as an actress and singer. The daughter of Eddie Fisher and Connie Stevens, she grew up in the spotlight as part of a Hollywood dynasty, alongside her half-sister Carrie Fisher. With her mother and younger sister Tricia Leigh Fisher, Joely toured the world, attending different schools and being educated by tutors.
While all three Fisher girls are actress, where Carrie went and starred in Star Wars, Joely starred in Ellen, alongside Ellen Degeneres, as Paige Clark, Ellen’s somewhat vain best friend, a role she played until the series’ end in 1998. Among her many other roles, she’s also well known for her part in Desperate Housewives, and later this year, she’ll be in The Tribes of Palos Verdes, alongside Jennifer Garner and Maika Monroe.
With the death of Carrie Fisher in December of last year, the loss of her sister inspired something inside her to write, and now, we have her memoir Growing Up Fisher: Musings, Memories, and Misadventures. While many celebrities come out with memoirs, and autobiographies, Joely Fisher’s is that rare memoir where you know every word is true, and comes from the heart. Each chapter covers a different aspect of her life, the most heartbreaking, and where the struggle of a writer to really put emotions to paper, is where she talks about loss.
Full of advice, memories of her childhood, and candid stories about her relationships and life, Fisher’s memoir is a wonder. Each sentence is raw, honest, and at times, heartbreaking; but she carries with her the hilarity and sense of humor that is so often loved in both her and her family.
Joely Fisher has a true talent for writing: she easily conveys every heartbreak and joy clearly across to the readers. Beautifully written, and easily enjoyed.
Growing Up Fisher: Musings, Memories and Misadventures is now available for purchase.
