What's It About?

Warning, mild spoilers ahead!

With September quickly approaching, it’s time to focus on what really matters: our favorite TV shows returning for the fall season. We certainly love summer, but it’s always a tough waiting game for any true TV watcher, while we speculate and dream over what will befall our favorite characters next year. Or rather, our favorite couples next year. Because let’s face it, we’re mostly in it for the romance.

Unfortunately, we left a lot of our OTPS (or One True Pairs) in some pretty tough spots at the end of the 2016-2017 season. Separated by time and space, thinking the other is dead, facing uncertain futures – let’s just say it’s been an angst-filled summer. Because we love books so much, it’s no surprise that most of our favorite shows & couples are based in literature. From The 100 to Arrow, we’re dying to finally have some answers this year, especially if those answers include lots of making out.

If you can’t remember where your OTPs ended up last season, don’t worry. We’ve got a complete breakdown of 4 of our favorites, including where they are now and where we hope they’re headed this coming year.

The CW’s Arrow: Felicity Smoak and Oliver Queen

Where They Are Now: It’s no secret that we’re obsessed with “Olicity,” the pairing between Green Arrow Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and his computer genius partner Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). These two had a pretty rocky time of it in Season 5, but they finally managed to reunite by the last few episodes…just in time for Felicity to get blown up on Lian Yu. The season ended with Oliver clutching his newly-found son while watching the island go up in flames.

Where We Hope They’re Headed: Since the show has veered wildly from its comic book source, we can’t look there for inspiration. But we do have one clear endgame in mind for Season 6: an Olicity wedding. Well, first we’d like Felicity to be alive and not roasted to a crisp on a remote island. But after that, it’s time for wedding bells. The two have already been engaged and have spent a whole season working through their trust issues. It’s time. Plus a few of the stars have hinted that it might be a possibility (be still our hearts!). Arrow is moving to Thursday nights on the CW this year, with Season 6 premiering on October 12th at 9 pm.

Starz’s Outlander: Jamie and Claire Fraser

 width=

Where They Are Now: *CRIES ALL THE TEARS* We’re still not over the painful goodbye that happened between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) at the end of Season 2. With the Jacobite war raging around them and both their futures at stake, Jamie sends Claire back through the stones so she can raise their baby together in a safer time. Both thinks the other is dead – or at least long gone – for almost 2 decades. It’s not until the very end of the season that Claire realizes Jamie survived the Battle of Culloden and that he’s still alive somewhere in the past.

Where We Hope They’re Headed: Fans of the popular book series by Diana Gabaldon pretty much know how this is going to work out. Or at least, we hope we know. For the rest of you, let’s just say that we need Jamie and Claire to find each other again ASAP. We’re down for a little mutual pining, but not too much, please. The show always works better when this chemistry-laden pair are together, so let’s keep any separation time to a bare minimum. We also want them to have some angst-free love for a little while, though knowing these two it seems doubtful. Season 3 premieres on Starz on Sunday, September 10th at 8pm.

The CW’s The 100: Clarke Griffin and Bellamy Blake

 width=

Where They Are Now: Literally separated by space. With the world facing yet another disaster, Bellamy (Bob Morley) was forced to leave Clarke (Eliza Taylor) behind when she didn’t make it to their spacecraft in time. Now he’s up in the stars, convinced that she’s dead, while she’s down on earth waiting for him to return. And not only is she waiting, she’s radioing him everyday for years even though he probably can’t hear her. SWOON.

Where We Hope They’re Headed: Can we all please stop pretending that this is a purely platonic relationship? Sure, no one has outrightly confessed or anything, but come on. Last season, they made it clear that they love each other in hundreds of different ways, from face stroking to passionate hugs to constantly relying on and supporting one another. So we want them together. Finally. And kissing. A lot of kissing preferably.

Obviously, first Bellamy needs to come down from space, and they need to be reunited. At this point, six years have passed and we’re sure that will bring on a whole new wave of angst. But this is our season, “Bellarke” fans! We can feel it! After all, the Clarke and Bellamy in the YA book series written by Kass Morgan ended up together. Even though the show has definitely veered from its source material, we refuse to give up hope that these two are endgame. There’s no set release date yet for Season 5, but it will most likely come back in early 2018.

ABC’s Once Upon a Time: Captain Hook and Emma Swan

 width=

Where They Are Now: True love! Marriage! Happily ever after! Nothing will ever come between them ever! “Captain Swan” spent Season 6 continually rescuing each other, a fairly common occurrence in this Disney world based on the Grimm fairy tales. They basically closed out the season with a wedding, a partnership, and the overwhelming knowledge that these two are complete and utter soulmates. It was all beautiful and romantic and we’re still not over it, to be honest.

Where We Hope They’re Headed: With several key characters leaving the show next year, there are major changes ahead for OUAT. One of the characters leaving is Jennifer Morrison’s Emma Swan, while Colin O’Donoghue’s Killian Jones (or Captain Hook) is staying on. This news is leaving fans in a panic, even though show creators have assured us that Emma and Hook are most definitely soulmates. Still, their future seems more uncertain than ever, especially considering that Season 7 will deal with a time jump, an older Henry, and a new curse. The gang has also left Storybrooke, with the remaining cast members residing in Seattle.

We’re fine with a reboot, but not if it robs us of a Captain Swan happily ever after. Luckily, Morrison is returning for at least one episode as Emma, and we’re expecting some major pining on the part of the cursed Captain Hook. The new season premieres on ABC on Friday, October 6th.
