This week’s installment of DIY MFA Radio is the Epic BookExpo Recap episode. If you don’t already what BookExpo is, it’s the big industry trade show that takes place in the United States every year. This year, things at BookExpo were a little bit new and different so I wanted to give you a rundown of what’s new, what’s still the same, and what I think all these things say about the book industry as a whole.

In this episode, Gabriela Pereira gives an inside look at the new vibe at BookExpo (and why she’s really digging the new, smaller, industry focus). She also gives a rundown of what really happens at a book industry trade show, and why she attends BookExpo. Finally, she shares a teaser of the four types of books/authors she was on the lookout for while walking the show.

ABOUT DIY MFA
Here’s a secret no one ever tells you. The typical MFA (Master of Fine Arts) boils down to one simple formula:

Writing + Reading + Community = MFA

This means that to create a do-it-yourself version of the MFA, all you need to do is: write with focus, read with purpose, and build your community. Read on to learn more or use the menu above to explore each category. We’ve also highlighted some key DIY MFA articles below to help you get started.
