Bucket List: Attending Mario Batali’s Jets + Chefs Tailgate

I recently came across the event posting for Jets + Chefs: The Ultimate Tailgate hosted by Mario Batali and Joe Namath and I’m jumping up and down like I’m 4 years old again, yelling, “I wanna go! I wanna go!”

Now many of you may be asking, “WHY? It’s the Jets.” Well, let me tell you. I’m a born-and-raised New York Jets fan. Surprising, right? Alas, we are still out there. And some of my fondest memories are from tailgating with my dad, uncle and cousins in the MetLife Stadium parking lot, what used to be The Meadowlands (personally, I liked that name better) in East Rutherford, NJ.

When Jets fans tailgate it’s a family affair!

There was nothing better than the camaraderie that you felt walking around talking with all of the fellow Jets fans, cooking hot dogs and hamburgers, and throwing around the football as you prepped to watch the Jets kick… OK, I got on a bit of a roll there. Maybe more like get their butts kicked, but that’s besides the point. The smell, the feeling, the excitement, it was all a part of the experience regardless of the outcome of the game and at the end of the day, most fans were realistic about the outcome.

Yes, I dressed up as a Jets fan for Halloween!

But as a die-hard Jets fan, I’m ashamed to say that I’ve been hiding under a rock regarding this fantastic party seeing as Jets + Chefs is gearing up for its third annual event on the roof of Pier 92 in New York City on October 17. Once it was on my radar, I was all set to purchase two tickets — how could I attend without dad in tow? — until I feasted my eyes upon the ticket price: $150. Whoa! While I shouldn’t be all that surprised, after all it is Mario Batali and hall-of-fame quarterback JOE NAMATH(!), it’s a little steep on a journalist’s salary. So if you’re looking for me, I’ll be devising a plan to get by with a child’s ticket ($50). Shhh! OK, maybe not, but I am determined to find my way there one day. Hey Mario, can I be your guest? I’ll even sub in for Fireman Ed (WE MISS YOU!) and start the Jets chant! Promise.

Are you as excited about this as I am? Are you dying to get a ticket of your own? Or maybe you can just buy one outright, in which case, hop on over to NYCFF.org and pick one up. (Lucky!) I’ll just be over here with a serious case of F.O.M.O.

If you’re not sitting on a wad of cash, just tweet me and tell me why you love the Jets as much as I do. We can commiserate together about missing out on this event. Editor’s Note: Pats fans need not interject.
