When it comes to the ultimate in fashion, the Hollywood award shows take a back seat to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition opening night gala–there’s a good reason it’s called the “Oscars of Fashion.” The brainchild of Anna Wintour, this year’s theme was China: Through the Looking Glass. The world’s fashionistas turned out in jewel-drenched splendor to show off the latest couture. Some followed the theme, some went couture crazy and some played it safe.
