Be a gladiator (or at least dress like SCANDAL’s Olivia Pope)

I’ve decided to invent a new season. It’s called sprinter—that awkward time of year when you’re praying winter will end and spring seems like a mythical promised land that is forever out of reach. This year, sprinter is brutal and it is lasting forever.

Not only is sprinter filled with surprise snowstorms and temperatures stuck at 20 degrees, but it might also be the worst time of year for fashion. All I want to do is burn my wool tights and outerwear, and yet I’m stuck wearing them for the foreseeable future. I long for floral prints and sandals.

In the meantime, I’m looking to my fashion icon Olivia Pope from ABC’s Scandal for some outerwear inspiration. If I have to keep wearing winter jackets then I want to look good while doing it, and no one can pull off a structured coat quite like Kerry Washington.

Here are some of my favorites from the last three seasons.

Love the nipped in waist and oversized sleeves on this Max Mara camel-colored coat from Season 2. Paired with a set of opera gloves, it’s a perfect outfit for the sprinter season.

Olivia Pope is the queen of the trench coat, and this Burberry one from Season 3 is AMAZING. It’s sold out– of course – but here’s one that’s similar.

Pale pink is a quintessential spring color. This pastel Armani coat will help you trick yourself into thinking it’s warm enough to ditch those dark colors of winter. Try this similar style.

This coat by Salvatore Ferragamo is one of those architectural marvels that is somehow both fitted and open. Ideal for those almost-not-quite-warm days of sprinter.

Perfect tailoring can fix almost any weather blues, and this Armani Collezioni jacket fits Washington like a glove. Find a similar style here for your own fitted tweed needs.

Okay, this one isn’t technically a coat, but a stylish hat can also help you navigate the weird weather patterns of sprinter. Plus it keeps unexpected snow from ruining your hair, which is always a bonus.

ABC's "Scandal" - Season Two

I am desperately praying for spring, but knowing that I can watch Olivia Pope rock outerwear every week is making this never-ending winter a little more bearable.
