I just finished WHITE HEAT by Melanie McGrath. I won it from BookTrib maybe a year ago, and I recommend it highly. It’s a mystery about foul play on Ellesmere Island, which is so far above the Arctic Circle that they can’t see the aurora. I learned a lot about the Arctic and the Inuit people, and I loved the character of Edie Kiglatuk, who feels…[Read more]

I just finished Peter Robinson’s new book Watching the Dark, which I won on book trib. It’s about corruption, a dead cop and a missing girl. I give it 5 stars out of 5.

I just read an ARC of ANIMAL WISE by Virginia Morell. It will be published in February, I think.

Here is a book everyone should read. It deals with such an important subject, and too many of us are unaware of it. Probably, MOST of us are unaware of it.

Virginia Morell, author of ANIMAL WISE, says that animals have minds. They use their brains as…[Read more]

This pertains to Dick Wolf’s book that’s offered as an ARC today. I don’t remember how long this has been on booktrib.com. I wonder because I received this in the mail last Friday with no note in the envelope, just the book, and no email telling me I won it. So I don’t know who I won it from, which Web site offered it.

Anyone read any new books about dogs or cats that was really good?

    • By ”new,” do you mean 2012? There are a few that just came out or are about to come out. I haven’t read any of them.

I recently finished THE EDUCATION OF KOKO by Francine Patterson and Eugene Linden. This is nonfiction about a gorilla named Koko who was raised to speak by sign language. The book is full of interesting facts and great pictures, but it was a disappointment. I expected that it would be Koko’s and the authors’ story. Instead, it is more a…[Read more]

    • By the way, this is a 1981 book. I think it’s out of print. I found it on Amazon used books. Also, I think the gorilla is still alive.

      • I think this book was made into a movie a long time ago..the name of the gorilla is familar to me..seems like Helen Hunt was in it.

A Dog’s Journey by W. Bruce Cameron was a great read, especially if you liked A Dog’s Purpose by the same author

I just entered to win the next galley giveaway on the home page. Harlan Coben recommends it. I hope it’s as good as his books.
