Just got back from the grocery store. It’s a little depressing to do so sometimes! Our garlic indeed does come from China. But I didn’t get any this trip. Alas, none of those bananas make it to the East Coast of the U.S. Ours all come from Latin and South America.
As for Garlic, I was going off an NPR report that Garlic and Apple Juice were the 2 largest food imports from China. As I’ve recently switched to fresh garlic, there is no label where the garlic came from. Buying America Back 1 year, 3 months agoI don’t think this is possible for me – we eat a ton of bananas, none of which come from the U.S.; and we eat a ton of garlic, almost all of which is imported from China. But I can certainly see if I can increase my U.S. food purchases.

Bananas are absolutely grown in Hawaii and nearly 100% of their 14,000 + ton annual harvest is for fresh market use. (Did I mention I am a monkey.) Watsonville, California is the garlic capital of the world!
