It’s true everyone only thinks of the Brontes, Austen, and wharton! I love Virginia Woolf. I know she’s dark, I know she’s depressing, but can you imagine having the ability to write so fluidly, poetically, and just downright beautifully? I would kill to write like her. Especially in The Death of the Moth or To the Lighthouse. I didn’t particularly enjoy Three Guineas but you can’t win them all I guess. I understand the classic women authors obsession (E.Bronte’s Wuthering Heights? Oh my goodness!) but can someone explain what the obsession is with J.K Rowling and Stephanie Meyer? Enough already!

    • i’m with you on that bookninja! the empire j.k rowling has built is insane and just inspiring for female authors wishing for success equitable to male authors. i just think a lot of classics and even contemporary literature is being replaced by some of these popular cultish reads. i like to see kids reading anything at all obviously – with tvs and video games it’s very rare to find a child who prefers a paperback to a playstation. that said, i’d still like to see a greater majority of kids trying out some classic authors. a few more of those women that come to mind are kate douglas wiggin and sylvia plath.
