BROKEN HARBOR- a story of how the dreams of a better life can collapse, of how a modern family can fall prey to the most modern of curses

About The Book

BROKEN HARBOR opens with veteran detective Mick “Scorcher” Kennedy (whom we met in Faithful Place) and his newly assigned rookie partner, Richie Curran, being called to a quadruple homicide of the Spain family in Brianstown, a seaside town 40 minutes outside of Dublin. When Mick spent time there as a boy, the place was calledBrokenHarbor. And his family’s last visit there is forever seared into his memory.

At the crime scene the father, Pat, was fatally stabbed, the mother, Jenny, is barely alive, and has been rushed to the hospital, and the two young children, Emma and Jack, have been smothered to death. During the search, Mick and Richie discover a lair in a half built and abandoned structure, directly across from theSpain’s house.  It has a perfect view into theSpain’s all-window kitchen. The early investigation points the murders directly to the voyeur, Conor Brennan, who is obsessed with Jenny and has been stalking her from the lair. Brennan was part of a teenage group of friends that included both Pat and Jenny, who were childhood sweethearts. Conor makes a full confession to killing theSpains, but obsessive love, betrayal, misplaced loyalty, and deception raise doubts about his guilt. As always, in Tana French novels, the character who appears to be guilty of murder never is.  And the thrilling journey of Mick and Richie’s investigation—and where it leads—will take your breath away.

BROKEN HARBOR is a story of how the dreams of a better life can collapse, of how a modern family can fall prey to the most modern of curses, and how one man – the ideal detective – can fall to pieces.
