Confession time: I’m a little obsessed with nail art. OK, a lot obsessed. There’s just something about adorable nails that pull together a whole outfit. Here’s what my fingers look like today:

This design is courtesy of Sally Hansen nail polish strips, because—let’s face it—I’m not the most coordinated when it comes to actual nail art. I’d like to get better, which is why I’ve recently delved into Nails: The Story of the Modern Manicure by Suzanne E. Shapiro, and Spectacular Nail Art by Larit Levy. Nails is a complete history, exploring the socioeconomics, advertising, and cultural importance of the manicure. Spectacular Nail Art is a how-to-guide, offering easy step-by-step instructions on how to make 35 awesome designs. Perfect for someone as nail-inept as me.

Once I’m an expert nail-doer, I hope to tackle a few more complicated images. But in the meantime, a girl can dream. Here are my favorite nail art looks for the holiday season:

Christmas Sweater

The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without a few winter sweaters thrown in. These red and white nails are a great tribute.

Snowflake

These snowflake nails are jazzed up with a little glitter, but they’re pretty and simple regardless of what colors you choose.

Candy Canes
